Our Mission & Values

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Have you noticed that every year at this time, we hear the same songs as we heard last year, and the year before that and the year before that… Seldom is there new Christmas music making its way into the repertoire. And we’re ok with that (except after hearing "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” a few dozen times!). The other constant at Christmas is the story itself. No, not the one concerning the guy in the red suit. Rather, the one concerning the parents looking for a place to have a baby; a baby whose birth would be announced by angels, witnessed by shepherds, honored by visiting scholars, and feared by a paranoid King.

On Wednesday, December 24, we are gathering at 6:30 p.m. to retell the story. We’ll sing many of the beloved Christmas hymns and carols by the soft light of candles, by guitar, and by the readings of scripture. It’s a wonderful time to gather as the People of God to celebrate Emmanuel, the God who is with us! This is a family-friendly gathering (no nursery).

Current Series

“What other time or season can or will the Church ever have but that of Advent?” - Karl Barth

The Advent season is so vital to the church because it holds two realities at the same time. It’s brutally honest in describing the state of our world, and extremely hopeful because of the Son of God entering into our world. We don’t look to lights, cookies, or nostalgia to provide us with cheap comfort. The hope, must come from somewhere else, outside of our own human invention in order to ease the distress. In Advent, we raise our heads and look to the one true light, Jesus Christ, who has entered into the world that He created. In Jesus, our redemption is drawing near.
